The La Jolla Country Day School (LJCDS) lacrosse team is gearing up for an exciting and challenging season ahead. With lofty goals of competing at a high level and bringing home a championship, Coach Kyle Espejo and his team are ready to showcase their skills on the field. In an exclusive interview, Coach Espejo shares his thoughts on the upcoming season, the team's key players, and his coaching philosophy. As the team prepares for their first game, Coach Espejo reflects on the program's growth and development. "We are on the verge of playing in the open division and this year will be a great test for this program and where we want to go," says Coach Espejo. This upcoming season will be a defining one for LJCDS lacrosse, as they hope to break into the highly competitive open division. When asked about the team's keys to success, Coach Espejo emphasizes the importance of playing their game, with fast transitions, hard-nosed defense, and the ability to control the pace of the game. With these strategies in place, LJCDS can hope to dominate their opponents on the field. One of the key players to watch out for this season is senior captain, Madden Craig. Coach Espejo praises Craig's game-changing abilities and his speed on the field, making him a nightmare for opposing defenses. As a leader on the team, Craig's impact will go beyond his individual performance, as he will also be responsible for elevating the team's overall performance. Another player to keep an eye on is freshman defender, Lucas Kauffman. Despite being new to the team, Kauffman is expected to make an immediate impact with his physicality and left-handed skills. Coach Espejo has high hopes for Kauffman and believes he will make a name for himself in the San Diego lacrosse scene. When asked about the qualities he looks for in players, Coach Espejo highlights the importance of going above and beyond for the team. "A person who can elevate the guys around them to make everyone a better player between the lines," says Coach Espejo. This speaks to the team's camaraderie and the importance of each player contributing to the team's success. Off the field, the LJCDS lacrosse team also has a strong bond, with game-day team lunches being a favorite among the players.
