As the new school year approaches, the Liberty North High School volleyball team is gearing up for an exciting season. We sat down with Coach Katie Dowden to get a preview of what's in store for the team this year. With a strong core of returning players and a challenging conference schedule, the Eagles are ready to make their mark on the court.
Coach Dowden is confident in the abilities of the team this year and with good reason. Out of the 12 players on the roster, seven are returning from a stellar season last year. These players are determined to build on their success and take the team even further this year. Three seniors in particular, Mak Miller, Emma Christian, and McKenna Jacquin, are expected to lead the team both offensively and defensively.
These experienced players will have a significant impact on the team's performance and set the tone for the season. But it's not just the returning players who will make an impact. Coach Dowden has her eye on some new talent that she believes will make an immediate impact on the team. Their skills and determination have already caught the coach's attention, and she is excited to see how they will contribute to the team.
With such a strong core of returning players and promising new additions, the Eagles are set to have a well-rounded and formidable team. When it comes to choosing team captains, Coach Dowden looks for specific qualities in her players. She wants someone who not only excels on the court but also displays leadership qualities off the court. According to Dowden, juniors Sawyer Hennigh and Kamryn Hinnenkamp fit the bill perfectly.
Both are skilled players who can run the offense and make an impact on the team's block defensively. Their leadership abilities make them ideal candidates for the captaincy. Another junior, Annalyse Cisneros, also stands out for her contributions to the team's back row. Her strong defensive skills will be crucial in keeping the team's opponents at bay. The Eagles' coaching style differs slightly from previous seasons, as they prepare to tackle a tough conference schedule.
The Suburban Conference Gold Division is one of the fiercest and most competitive in the state, with eight powerhouse teams, including Liberty North. This will undoubtedly make every game night a battle for the Eagles. But Coach Dowden is up for the challenge, and her coaching style will reflect this.
