We appreciate your support and are excited for a great season. Be sure to come out and cheer us on at our meets and show your school spirit! Go Poly High! The Long Beach Poly High School swim team is gearing up for an exciting and competitive season under the leadership of Coach Kalani Caldwell. With a strong focus on individual improvement and team success, the team has set their sights on achieving their goals and making a lasting impact in the pool. Coach Caldwell has high expectations for the team this season, aiming to take the girls as far and as fast as they can go. The team’s main focus is on achieving their best times and ultimately winning the Moore League. But beyond the numbers, Coach Caldwell also emphasizes the importance of communication, dedication, and most importantly, having fun while swimming fast. Returning for her senior year, Sofia Brys and junior Belle Puckett are seen as leaders in the water. Both girls swim year-round at a local club and have their sights set on swimming in college. Their dedication and drive make them valuable assets to the team and serve as motivation for their fellow teammates. But the team also has some fresh talent that is expected to make an immediate impact. Freshman Phoebe Kuo, a standout breaststroke and IM swimmer, is set to fill the void left by a graduated breaststroker. Coach Caldwell has high hopes for her, as she will also be a key member of the medley relay team that hopes to win the league and qualify for CIF. When it comes to choosing team captains, Coach Caldwell looks for natural leaders who are willing to go above and beyond for their team. The ideal captain should be the first one on the deck and the last one to leave, guiding their teammates to push themselves to be the best student-athletes they can be. This season, Sofia Brys is expected to step into the role of captain, as she possesses all of the qualities Coach Caldwell looks for. Team chemistry and camaraderie are crucial aspects for any successful team, and Coach Caldwell has a plan in place to foster a strong bond amongst her swimmers. The team starts the season off with a Varsity Retreat, focusing on trust, team-building, and supporting one another. They also have carbo dinners before meets and team activities to bring the girls together.
