The Los Alamitos High School softball team has high expectations for this season, with the ultimate goal of winning the Sunset League and CIF Division 1. Coach Rob Weil has been leading the team for several years and has seen great success, but this year's team is shaping up to be one of their strongest and most competitive yet.
When asked about his goals for the team, Coach Weil was clear that winning both the Sunset League and CIF Division 1 were at the top of his list. He believes that the key to success will be a combination of hard work, determination, and teamwork. The team will need to come together and play at their best in order to achieve these goals.
Returning players Camryn Johnson, Allyssa Ramos, Gabby Terrones, Kalie Matsuno, Bella Rodriguez, and Cari Ferguson are all expected to have a major impact on the team's success this season. Johnson, the leadoff batter, is known for her speed and ability to get on base. Ramos, a strong hitter and catcher, will play an important role both offensively and defensively.
The team will also rely on the power hitting and third base skills of senior Gabby Terrones. Matsuno, a senior shortstop, brings speed and consistency to the field, while Bella Rodriguez is a leader on and off the field at second base. Junior pitcher Cari Ferguson is expected to be a major contributor on the mound, with her strong arm and control.
While the team has several returning players, there are also some new additions that Coach Weil believes will make an immediate impact. However, he would not disclose any specific names as he wants to give all the players an equal opportunity to shine and earn their spot on the team. When it comes to choosing team captains, Coach Weil looks for players who possess qualities such as leadership, dedication, and a positive attitude.
He believes in a fair and competitive process where players earn the captaincy through their performance and character on and off the field. In order to promote team chemistry and camaraderie, the team takes a road trip to Bullhead City, Arizona in early March. This early season bonding experience has proven to be effective in building a strong and united team.
Coach Weil also emphasizes the importance of communication and trust among the players, which are essential for success on the field. To motivate his players to reach their full potential, Coach Weil focuses on positive reinforcement and setting individual and team goals.
