Tue, April 15, 2025 at 03:04 AM . Nebraska
After a standout 5th-place finish at the Class A State Meet last fall, the Omaha Marian Cross Country team is heading into the upcoming season with quiet confidence and a clear goal: keep climbing. Under the steady leadership of Coach Roger Wright, the Crusaders are focused on development, consistency, and team culture. Offseason Focus: Staying Active Across Sports With most varsity runners involved in track, soccer, or tennis this spring, multi-sport participation continues to play a key role in keeping athletes conditioned, competitive, and well-rounded. This cross-training builds athleticism while fostering camaraderie across the school's athletic programs. Roster Outlook: Core Experience Returns While Marian bids farewell to a dedicated senior class, the future remains bright with several returning letterwinners ready to step up. The team is anchored by a group of hardworking, dedicated runners who embody the program’s values. Players to Watch: A Team-Focused Mentality Coach Wright is quick to point out that success at Marian isn't about individuals—it's about the collective. “They all are very dedicated and wonderful to work with,” he said. The strong team-first culture continues to be one of the program’s biggest strengths. Coaching Development: Always Evolving The coaching staff remains committed to growth, regularly attending clinics and coaching seminars to stay sharp and bring back fresh strategies and insights. That openness to learning and adaptation is a cornerstone of Marian's sustained success. Community & Fan Support: A Key Ingredient Support from parents and the wider Marian community has been a constant, and Coach Wright expects even more of that energy this fall. “The parents were great at supporting us last season. No doubt there will be more of the same,” he shared. Challenges Ahead: A Tough Class A Field Competing in Nebraska's competitive Class A division is no small task. But after proving they belong with the best, the Crusaders are eyeing a move further up the leaderboard. With experience, dedication, and unity on their side, they’re poised to make another deep run in 2025. Omaha Marian Cross Country isn’t just running races—it’s building a legacy rooted in discipline, heart, and excellence.
