The 2024-25 season was one for the history books at Moreno Valley High School, as the boys soccer team captured its first league title since 2016, fueled by talent, teamwork, and a renewed focus on success. Key Contributors Coach Carlos played a vital role in the program’s success by implementing new physical training regimens that kept players sharp and conditioned. On the field, Sayed Khan (#10) led the way, finishing as the league’s top scorer with an impressive 23 goals. The team’s backbone, or “spine,” included standout performances from Alex Rivera (FW), Jacob Bedolla and Christian Alvarez (CMs), Abraham Quintero and Leo DeLaSerna (CBs), and Emanuel Munoz (GK)—a group that proved essential to securing the league title. Season Overview Coach Perez described the season as "great"—and with good reason. Winning the league after a near-decade drought was a massive accomplishment for the program. Defining Moments A pivotal turning point came after a tough opening-day loss in league play. The team regrouped during a two-week break, refocused on their goals, and never looked back, going undefeated over the next nine matches with seven wins and two ties to clinch the championship. Player Development Sophomores Alex Rivera and Leo DeLaSerna took huge strides as the season progressed, becoming indispensable starters and setting the stage for a strong future. Overcoming Adversity Following the early loss, the team demonstrated maturity and growth. Rather than getting discouraged, they used the setback as motivation, pulling together and raising their level of play to championship form. Senior Class Impact This year’s seniors brought hunger, drive, and leadership, setting a tone that younger players quickly followed. Their energy helped push the entire program forward. Looking Ahead Excitement is high for next season, with 8 to 9 starters returning to a team that was already younger than most of its competitors. Moreno Valley High is moving up to compete in the prestigious Ivy League, facing some of the Inland Empire’s top programs—a challenge Coach Perez and his team are eagerly anticipating. Offseason Focus The offseason plan focuses on continuing to build culture and good habits across all levels of the program, from freshmen to seniors, to ensure sustained success.
