It’s that time of year again, and the Mountain View High School lacrosse team is gearing up for another exciting season. With Coach Andrew Beattie at the helm, the team has high hopes for the upcoming season. In this preview article, we will take an in-depth look at Coach Beattie’s goals and strategies, as well as the challenges facing the team, and the key players to watch out for this year.
When asked about his goals for the season, Coach Beattie was quick to respond with passion and determination. “My goals for the season are to be back to back league champions and to go deep into the playoffs,” he stated. This is a lofty goal, but as Coach Beattie clearly believes, nothing is impossible with hard work and dedication.
So, how does Coach Beattie plan to achieve these goals? “By playing nitty gritty Mountain View lacrosse, playing together and for each other, not for ourselves,” he declared. Coach Beattie has a strong emphasis on the team mentality, believing that individual success will follow when the team works together and puts their hearts into the game. This is a philosophy that has proven successful for the team in the past and will likely continue to do so this season.
In order to instill this team-first attitude, Coach Beattie looks for specific qualities in his captains. “Dedication, hard work, communication, and finally, having a team-first attitude,” he listed. This year, the team will be led by four dedicated seniors: Diego Ortega, Gabriel Gallentine, Nicholas Guindi, and Ryan Pacheco. These players exemplify the qualities that Coach Beattie looks for in his captains and will undoubtedly be crucial in leading the team to success.
To further bond the team together, Coach Beattie has planned team bonding dinners before major games and designated Fridays as “Fun Fridays.” “On these days, the team will get a relaxing day away from the hard work they usually put in,” Coach Beattie explained. This not only allows the players to unwind and have fun, but also helps in fostering a strong team dynamic.
Motivation is key for any successful team, and Coach Beattie understands this. “I create drills and activities that will make their playstyle flourish while still being fun,” he shared. By keeping things challenging yet enjoyable, Coach Beattie is able to keep the players motivated and their skills sharp.
