Every year, high school sports teams gear up for a new season, with high hopes and revamped energy. The Oak Grove High School sports teams are no exception. With a successful 2019-2020 season behind them, the team is looking to continue their winning ways this year. To get a closer look at the upcoming season, we sat down with Coach Chris Lancellotti, head coach of the Oak Grove High School sports teams, to discuss his expectations, team dynamics, and key players for the upcoming year. Question: How was the team's performance last season and what were some of the highlights? Coach Lancellotti: Last season was a successful one for us. All of our teams, from football to basketball to track and field, had winning records and competed well in their respective leagues. Some of the highlights for me were watching our football team go undefeated in the regular season and make it to the semi-finals, our girls' basketball team winning their league championship, and our track and field team sending several athletes to the state championships. Question: Which sports teams are you most excited about for the upcoming season? Coach Lancellotti: I am excited about all of our teams, but I am particularly looking forward to seeing our volleyball and soccer teams in action. Both teams have shown a lot of potential during offseason practices and have a great group of returning players. Question: What changes have you made to the team's training regimen or strategy for this year? Coach Lancellotti: One major change we have made is implementing a new strength and conditioning program for all of our athletes. We noticed that our teams were lacking in overall strength and endurance, so we have incorporated more weight training and conditioning exercises into our practice routines. We are also focusing more on mental toughness and preparedness, as we saw that was a weakness last year in some critical games. Question: Who are some returning players that fans should keep an eye on this season? Coach Lancellotti: We have a few standout players returning this year. On the football team, we have senior quarterback Jason Thompson, who had an exceptional season last year and looks even better this year. In basketball, we have senior point guard Sarah Davis, who was a key player in our championship run last year and has improved her ball-handling and shooting skills over the offseason.
