Season Overview Under the guidance of Head Coach Dan Morrow, Olathe South High School’s boys basketball team wrapped up the season with a 14-8 overall record and a 4th place finish in the tough Sunflower League (9-4 record). The Falcons also took home the Olathe City Championship, going 4-0 against their local rivals. Key Contributors The undeniable leader of the team was Senior Nic Anderson, a three-year starter and three-time all-state and all-conference selection. Nic broke the school’s all-time scoring record for both career and single season, while also finishing first all-time in field goals made and free throws made, and third in career rebounds—a legacy that will be hard to top. Supporting him were five other seniors, each vital in the team’s nine-man rotation. Notably: Drey Steinbacher and JuJu Marks earned honorable mention all-conference honors for their steady performances on both ends of the court. Season Highlights After a slow 1-2 start against strong competition, the team found its rhythm despite only returning one starter. Their biggest success came from going undefeated in the Olathe City Series, including three overtime wins, showing grit and composure under pressure. The Falcons’ season ended in a hard-fought loss to powerhouse Shawnee Mission South (21-1), just one game short of the state tournament. Defining Moments The early-season losses helped shape the team, forcing younger players to step up. From that point on, the Falcons posted their best Sunflower League record in years, proving their resilience. Player Development Jaxon Chai (Junior PG) stepped up in a major way and looks ready to lead the team next year. Drey Steinbacher (Senior Wing) developed into a key scorer and contributor late in the season. Team Resilience With no major injuries during the year, the Falcons focused on mental toughness. They thrived in overtime situations, winning three of four Olathe rivalry games in extended play—evidence of their poise and grit under pressure. Senior Class Impact All six seniors contributed meaningfully to the team rotation. Their commitment and execution of their roles laid the groundwork for team unity and effort throughout the season. Looking Ahead While next season may be a rebuilding year, the program remains optimistic. Returner Jaxon Chai will be the foundation, supported by three sophomores who logged varsity minutes. Excitement is also brewing over a dominant freshman group that won the Sunflower League with an 18-1 record. Offseason Goals Coach Morrow emphasizes the need to: Build experience Increase strength in the weight room Develop chemistry among the new rotation Maintain toughness and discipline
