The Providence High School softball team in Burbank, California has high hopes for the upcoming season. With a strong culture of winning and a team of dedicated players, they are poised to repeat their success from last year and achieve even greater accomplishments. I had the opportunity to speak with Coach Manny Travieso about the team and their goals for this season, and his answers provide valuable insights into the team's strengths and strategies. One of the team's main goals is to repeat last year's success of winning their league undefeated, but they also have their sights set on going as far as possible in CIF. This ambition and determination to push themselves beyond their limits is what drives the team forward. Coach Manny believes that the key to their success lies in their strong winning culture, which constantly pushes the players to be better every day and prepares them for the next step in their softball journey. This year, the team comprises 8 seniors, but according to Coach Manny, the entire team is needed to achieve their goals. The team's speedster, Breanna Pelaez, is a standout player who led the nation in stolen bases last year with an impressive 80 steals. Her speed and agility on the bases make her a force to be reckoned with. Coach Manny expects her to try and break her own record this year, which will undoubtedly be thrilling to watch. The team's pitching and catching will play a vital role in setting the tone for the season. Grace Workman and Olyvia Rutter are the team's two pitchers, and they complement each other perfectly with their different styles and range of pitches. Behind the plate, the team has two strong catchers in junior Delailah Lopez and senior Belen Benito, who make a dynamic duo, able to handle any situation on the field. As for leadership, Coach Manny believes that all his players possess qualities of good leadership, which is why he sees them all as potential captains. The team has a tight bond, and they make sure to spend time together both on and off the field. This camaraderie is evident in their pre-game rituals of eating together during away games and going to watch college softball games as a team. Coach Manny's philosophy of continuous improvement is evident in his statement that every year, both the players and coaches must get better. As they play games and gain more experience, they also learn and adapt, making them a more formidable team.
