As another fall season approaches, the Salpointe Catholic High School girls' volleyball team is gearing up for an exciting and promising year. With the guidance of their first-year coach, Keith Rubio, the team is determined to make their mark in the league and possibly even make it to state. Coach Rubio is no stranger to the sport, having been a retired collegiate coach before taking on the opportunity to coach at Salpointe Catholic.
With his expertise and experience, he has a good grasp on how to motivate his players and push them to their full potential. This year's top returning players include seniors Bell Russell and Lexi Hutchins. Despite being plagued by injuries in the past, Hutchins is finally healthy and expected to be a strong contributor to the team's offense and defense.
Russell, on the other hand, brings a wealth of experience and leadership as a senior. Both players possess exceptional athleticism and skills that make them stand out on the court. But it's not just about the individual players, as Coach Rubio emphasizes the importance of team chemistry and unity. He believes that respecting and supporting each other is vital to achieving success on the court.
And with the team being "big and long and athletic", Coach Rubio is confident that they have what it takes to compete with other teams in the league. Of course, every season comes with its own set of challenges, and for the Salpointe Catholic girls' volleyball team, it's all about staying focused and consistent. With a talented and experienced roster, the biggest challenge for the team is to keep their minds on the game and not get complacent.
Coach Rubio stresses the importance of being mentally prepared and motivated for each game, as they have the potential to be their own biggest obstacle. In terms of the competition they will face this season, Coach Rubio believes that the biggest challenge will come from themselves. While there are tough opponents in the league, the team's main focus is on maintaining their level of play and not letting any outside factors affect their performance.
With this mindset, they are capable of defeating any team that comes their way. One thing that makes this year's team different is the mix of experienced seniors and younger players. With only two seniors on the team, there are two freshmen, one sophomore, and the rest are juniors.
