As the San Marin High School baseball team takes the field this season, they have their sights set on achieving their ultimate goal – winning the MCAL championship. Led by coach Jamie Vattuone, the team is eager to rise to the challenge and prove their worth on the diamond. In this exclusive preview article, we sit down with Coach Vattuone to get a closer look at his team and their goals for the season. Coach Vattuone's main focus for the season is to take it one pitch, one inning, and one game at a time. He believes that by approaching each game with a winning mentality, the team can work towards their long-term goal of winning the MCAL championship. Furthermore, the team is also aiming for a successful run in the NCS playoffs and a spot in the NorCal finals. This ambitious mindset and determination to succeed will be the key to their success this season. The Mustangs have a strong group of returning players who will be crucial to the team's success. Seniors Anthony Scheppler, Cole Chamberlain, Jake Simpson, and junior Sean McGrath are all hardworking and dedicated players who have a high level of experience and skill. Coach Vattuone believes they will be essential in leading the team towards their goals this season. In addition, there are several new players who are expected to make an immediate impact on the team. Junior Tyler Keehn, a big hitting first baseman, will also see some time on the mound. Joey Cipollina, a returning player, will provide depth in the outfield and also pitch. Hugh Brady, a junior, will play a crucial role in the middle infield. Sophomore Matthew Baldino will also be a key player, playing in the infield and also taking on some catching duties. When it comes to selecting team captains, Coach Vattuone looks for players with good leadership qualities who will hold themselves and their teammates accountable. While they are still evaluating potential captains, it is clear that the team has a strong sense of camaraderie and are all working towards the same goals. Building team chemistry and camaraderie is also a top priority for the Mustangs this season. Coach Vattuone is a firm believer that a team that works hard together can learn to win together. With this in mind, the team will not only focus on their skills on the field, but also finding opportunities outside of practice to bond and strengthen their relationships as a team.
