It's that time of year again, the start of track season at Selma High School. The team is ready to hit the ground running and represent their school with pride. Coach Mitchell Francis shares with us the team's goals for the season, key players to watch, and what makes this team a force to be reckoned with. As with any sport, setting goals is crucial for success. For Coach Francis and his team, their main focus this year is to represent Selma High School proudly both on and off the track. This includes staying focused on their personal goals in the classroom and having a safe, fun, and successful season. With these goals in mind, the team is ready to take on any challenge that comes their way. One of the key factors for the team's success this season is going to be recording their personal records (PRs) early on. This allows the athletes to have a clear benchmark to work towards each day at practice. It also helps them to track their progress and make the necessary adjustments to continuously improve. A top performer to watch out for this season is Malachi Carrasco, one of the Central Valley's best high jumpers from last year. Expectations are high for him as he looks to continue his success and make an impact for the team. Another standout is Kimberly Bojorquez, a top female returner who will be showcasing her talents in both jumps and throws. Coach Francis praises her for her dedication and predicts a successful season for her. Mickell Melancon is another athlete to keep an eye on. He is known for his speed and jumping abilities, and impressed everyone in his first track season last year. With more experience and training under his belt, Coach Francis has high expectations for him this season. Donovan Contreras, the team's top thrower, is also expected to have a major impact this year. Having performed well in the previous season, he has been training hard to bring home even bigger results this year. Another rising star to watch is freshman Jonathan Godinez. Despite his young age, he is already being hailed as one of the top runners on the team. Coach Francis praises his talents and believes he will be a major contender in the distance running events. The team captains for this year are all experienced returners. They understand the expectations and serve as great examples for the rest of the team. These athletes are leaders both on and off the track, excelling in their events and motivating their teammates.
