After a year of rebuilding and missing the playoffs in 2023-24, the Sheldon High School Boys Soccer team bounced back in a big way under the leadership of Coach John Litle. With a mix of senior leadership and emerging talent, the Huskies outperformed expectations and returned to playoff contention. Standout Players The heartbeat of the team was Emmanuel Alvarez, who was named team MVP. He tallied 12 goals and 12 assists, consistently delivering in the most important moments. Alvarez, along with Justin Pena, served as co-captains. Pena, named the team's Defensive MVP, anchored the back line and brought composure and grit to the team’s structure. Raghib Jami also had a strong season, finishing as the second-leading scorer with 7 goals and 7 assists, while Zed Medina emerged in the second half of the season after becoming eligible. Medina brought skill and versatility to the midfield, adding a much-needed boost down the stretch. Season Highlights The Huskies showed they were ready to compete early with a come-from-behind 3-1 win over Laguna Creek, setting the tone for the season. Another critical moment came with a late goal to beat Pleasant Grove, which boosted the team’s confidence. A hard-fought win over Elk Grove in the final stretch of the season ultimately sealed their spot in the playoffs. Adversity & Resilience Throughout the season, Sheldon battled through injuries and setbacks but continued to stay focused. “The team was resilient and managed to battle through by working hard at practice and staying positive,” said Coach Litle. Senior Leadership The senior class played a major role in reestablishing the team’s competitive culture. “The seniors wanted to finish as a team that made the playoffs,” Coach Litle shared—and they did just that. Looking Ahead With many seniors graduating, the team now enters a rebuilding phase. “It’s always interesting to step back, rebuild, go back to basics, and start building back up to being competitive,” said Litle. The returners will have big shoes to fill, but the foundation is strong. Where to Find Stats Full team and individual stats are available at MaxPreps.
