The 2024–25 wrestling season was one of historic growth and success for the Stanton College Prep wrestling program. With a team-first mindset, strong leadership from both experienced and developing wrestlers, and a commitment to work ethic and sportsmanship, the team made significant strides and achieved new program milestones. Key Contributors: Senior Mackenzie Mock served as a vital team leader, particularly for the girls' squad, keeping everyone organized and informed. Brothers Leonardo and Diego Torres were instrumental in practice sessions, often leading demonstrations and setting the standard for work ethic. James Leiby, Adrian Deleston, and Branon Spurlin also played key roles by helping teach moves, maintaining order at meets, and modeling discipline and sportsmanship. Season Summary: Coach Dunn described the season as “great,” highlighted by several standout individual performances: Diego Torres claimed a Conference Championship. Leonardo Torres not only won the District Championship but also became a State Placer. James Leiby secured a District Championship as well. Perhaps most notably, the team earned three team trophies, marking the first time in school history the program has achieved such success. Turning Points: The Harmony Tournament just before Christmas proved to be a key confidence booster. The team saw their hard work pay off and realized how well prepared they were compared to top-tier competition. Growth and Development: Many wrestlers took on greater responsibilities as the season progressed, stepping into leadership roles and consistently improving on the mat. Coach Dunn noted steady, weekly progress across the board. Handling Adversity: Whether facing tough losses or injuries, the Blue Devils showed resilience by rallying around one another like a family. This camaraderie proved to be a cornerstone of the team’s success. Leadership: Although Mackenzie Mock was the only senior, the team’s junior class provided most of the leadership throughout the season. Their influence helped shape the culture and standards of the program moving forward. Looking Ahead: With nearly the entire roster returning next season, Coach Dunn is energized by the opportunity to build on this year's foundation. “We just keep making history at Stanton,” he said, pointing to the upward momentum of the program. Offseason Focus: The offseason goals are clear: increase time in the weight room and continue developing strength and conditioning to complement the team’s technical skills.
