The 2024–25 wrestling season was another powerful display of excellence for Sweet Home High School, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams turning in standout performances and further solidifying the program’s reputation as one of the strongest in Oregon. Champions in the Circle The boys’ team was dominant across the board, led by four individual state champions: Jesse Landtroop – State Champion Riley Vaughan – State Champion Tytus Hardee – State Champion Dillan Davis – State Champion Kyle Zajic – State Runner-up On the girls’ side, Bailey Chafin stood out, earning 2nd place at the state tournament and setting the tone for a young, hungry women's squad. Despite setbacks, the team proved its depth and resilience. “At Regionals, we lost an athlete we expected to win state, but the team stepped up,” Thorpe said. “We still won Regionals and finished strong at State.” Leadership & Development The women’s team benefited from two key seniors whose leadership helped shape the program's culture and inspired younger teammates. The men’s team, though younger, featured rising stars who grew into high-pressure roles as the season wore on. Future Outlook: Full of Promise The future looks incredibly bright: Boys: 9 state placers returning—including 4 defending champions Girls: Major point scorers returning, plus a promising incoming class of freshmen Offseason Momentum Sweet Home isn’t slowing down. “We’ve had our best spring yet,” said Thorpe. “We entered 38 wrestlers into the Freestyle and Greco State Tournaments.
