As the Tarboro Vikings prepare for the upcoming season, the focus is crystal clear—rebuilding the offensive and defensive lines. After graduating four of five starters on the O-line and both starting tight ends, the coaching staff has spent the offseason developing the next wave of players to protect and push the program forward. Coaching Changes & Continuity This offseason brought a notable coaching change as the JV Head Coach took the reins at Beddingfield High School. To keep things in the family, Eric Jones—formerly the Middle School Head Coach—was promoted to lead the JV squad. He’s joined by his offensive coordinator, Adrian Brown, and OL/LB coach Sean Howard. With the JV team now sharing a campus with varsity, Coach Craddock and staff are ensuring all levels of the program are aligned in philosophy and execution. “We’re bringing them in, showing them how we do things,” Craddock said. “They’ve done a great job at the middle school level, and now they’re stepping into a bigger role.” Players to Watch Despite changes in the trenches, the Vikings are loaded with returning talent at the skill positions: Kamerin McDowell-Moore (RB, Sr.): A powerful runner drawing D1 interest with offers from UNC Charlotte, Old Dominion, Gardner-Webb, and Charleston Southern. Tyler Powell (DE/QB, Sr.): A true two-way standout. Last season, Powell racked up 25 sacks, placing him 8th in the state, while also starting under center. These seniors have been putting in the work during the offseason and are expected to lead both on the field and in the locker room. Offseason Development Weight room sessions have been essential this offseason, especially with the focus on developing the next generation of linemen. Strength, technique, and conditioning have all been top priorities as the Vikings prepare for another deep run. Community Support & Engagement The Vikings have continued to strengthen their bond with the community. The newly formed Tarboro Football Club is already making a major impact, raising funds and sponsoring the program beyond what the school can provide. From Community Night and Meet the Vikings events to good ol’ fashioned chicken plate fundraisers, Tarboro football is more than just a team—it’s a community staple. Looking Ahead: Challenges & Goals The biggest question mark heading into the season is how quickly the offensive and defensive lines can come together. With nearly all the top skill players returning, the Vikings have the talent to contend—they just need the big men up front to rise to the occasion. Final Word The foundation is solid, the culture is strong, and the vision is clear. With veteran leadership, strong community backing, and a committed coaching staff, Tarboro is setting the stage for another memorable season.
