As the Woodbridge Senior High School girls' volleyball program prepares for the Fall 2025 season, Head Coach Richard Habina knows one thing for sure — this will be a season of transformation. With eight seniors graduating last year, a new wave of talent is stepping in, and the team is leaning into its military-inspired culture to lead the charge.
Offseason Focus: Strength, Skill, and Stability
“We’ve had to focus heavily on strength and conditioning along with skill-building,” Habina said. “With potentially only four returners and 90% of the team being new, we’re facing a lot of unknowns. But I’m very optimistic.”
Despite the major turnover, Coach Habina sees the opportunity to build a strong foundation rooted in accountability and hard work. And with a freshman team formed for the first time in years, the program is investing in long-term growth.
Coaching Culture: Core Values that Go Beyond the Court
One thing that sets Woodbridge apart is its military influence. With coaches from the Marine Corps, Navy, and Army—or raised in military families—the program operates with clear values: Honor, Courage, and Commitment.
“The idea of ‘team’ is way more important than just a volleyball game,” Habina shared. “These Core Values create a culture that athletes can rely on—and that can be built on for success in volleyball and life.”
New Look, Same Ambition
This fall, the team will have a very different look—but that doesn’t mean lowered expectations. The coaching staff, all actively involved in club volleyball this year, are returning with new drills, insights, and strategies to elevate training.
“The growth we saw from the freshman team last year, and the work these girls have been putting in through the offseason and club seasons, gives me high hopes,” said Habina.
Community Connection: Building Support from the Ground Up
Woodbridge volleyball benefits from a strong and supportive community. “Our parents and students show up, they cheer, and they make the atmosphere fun and engaging,” said Habina. “Volleyball’s growing so fast—even the boys are asking when they’ll get a team!”
Looking Ahead: Can This Young Team Come Together?
With so much roster turnover, the biggest challenge will be team unity and buy-in. Habina is clear: “Will the girls believe in the system, the strategies, and the Core Values we’re teaching? Will they build together? That’s the challenge—and the opportunity.”
Fall 2025 may mark a new chapter for Woodbridge Volleyball, but the mission remains the same: play with honor, push with courage, and commit to the process.
