At Lynbrook High School, the varsity team is gearing up for another successful season under coach Lynley Takaki. With a mix of seasoned seniors and bright young prospects, the team is set to take on any challenge thrown their way.
Takaki's goal for the team is to continuously improve throughout the season and qualify for CCS playoffs. The team is aware of its competing responsibilities in both sports and academics, but Takaki believes that with trust in the process, trust in the team, and highly energetic practices, the Lynbrook High School team can succeed this season.
The massive roster includes six returning varsity players, three of them being the top returning players from last season; #5 Maggie Lam, a senior, is known for her versatility when it comes to handling the ball and playing with her back towards the basket, #23 Alice Wu, a junior, has a knack for crafty finishes and can keep up with even the quickest of opponents, and #35 Christina Li, a senior, is known to be a physical player who can shoot from range.
Additionally, there is a new three-player pack that the team has welcomed; #11 Kate Nagareda, a sophomore, is a spark for the team and brings intense energy when on the court, #12 Meena Yarlagadda, a sophomore, can fill in another post position for the team and has a high IQ, and #15 Charisse Chao,a freshman, with her calm demeanor and ability to perform, is sure to make an immediate impact.
The team captains are already selected. #5 Maggie Lam has been chosen as the sole captain for this season. Takaki tries to make sure that there is steady team chemistry and camaraderie by leaving time for fun challenges and team parties throughout the season.
When it comes to motivation for the players, Takaki's focus is to get the team to push themselves to their full potential. Takaki's unique coaching style has seen the team improve in the span of one year, as he keeps the expectations and general goals the same. The team's biggest challenge, in preparing for the season, has been the small nine-player roster and injury sustained by two other players.
The team has a fair schedule this season with some challenging opponents, with Los Gatos expected to be the toughest. Takaki and the team are confident that despite the odds and challenges they face, they can put up a good fight. Takaki has taken measures to build upon team strengths and improve weaknesses. The team's main strength is their speed, whereas their main disadvantage is height. To make up for that, the team has to play bigger and try to wrap up their games early.
Ultimately it is up to Lynbrook High School; their ability to be effective communicators on the court, balance their studies and sports, make use of their strategies and plays, and to motivate themselves to become their best selves. Takaki wants to thank everyone for their support of the team, and states that they are looking forward to putting up a great performance for all.

We will continue to focus on speed to create more scoring opportunities for our guard play. We will build on our strengths by emphasizing skill based drills and working together as a team to develop smarter decision making ability. We will need to improve on our heights by focusing on developing post players and defensive strategies to make up for the height difference. We need to become a unit that is focused and works hard on and off the court to make sure everyone is doing the best that they can. We will focus on the idea of holistic health that can lead to greater skills and accomplishments. https://create.play1.io/project-gallery-shareing/?pid=2360

We do a lot of activities that encourage open dialogue and reflection in practices and team activities. This helps us to refocus on our ultimate goal to win every game and to build a strong bond with each other both on and off the court.
The mental aspect of the game is of utmost importance for the Lynbrook High School Girls Basketball team. As a rigorous academic public school, their players are constantly pulled in different directions and find themselves with limited specialized focus on the game they love. To combat this, the team has united in creating a positive and focused atmosphere on the court through encouraging open dialogue and reflection. From the moment the girls step onto the court, the Lynbrook team has a goal to win each and every game through strong team bonding and coming together as a unit. https://create.play1.io/project-gallery-shareing/?pid=2362

We focus on the collective as a whole, by refining both individual and team skills, building their basketball IQ, and emphasizing the importance of team chemistry and communication. Every practice, we work to ensure our drills and plans are tailored to their development. The team has remarkably improved in their technique, has become better at incorporating team defense, and have a grasp of the different strategies. I'm really proud of them and the progress they’ve made so far.

Coach Lynley Takaki and the Lynbrook High School Girls Basketball team have had to overcome quite a few challenges this season. With only nine players on the varsity roster, and one of those players taking a class that interferes with practice three times a week, the team has had to figure out a way to make the most of practices. To add to the difficulty, two players have had to miss about two weeks of practice due to injuries. Despite these challenges, the Lynbrook Girls Basketball team has remained strong and determined to have a successful season. Our Lynbrook High School Girls Basketball team is already in a strong position, with six returning Varsity players. But the challenge of maintaining our success still lies ahead! This year, our team is welcoming three talented, new additions. Welcome #11 Kate Nagareda, a Sophomore who will bring immediate energy to the court. Welcome #12 Meena Yarlagadda, also a Sophomore who will fill in our postwar need. And finally, #15 Charisse Chao, a talented Freshman, who brings a unique calmness and skillset to the court. We are beyond excited for a successful and rewarding season, and are confident this new and improved team will make an immediate impact! https://create.play1.io/project-gallery-shareing/?pid=2368

Our Lynbrook High School Girls Basketball team is looking forward to the upcoming season with two of our veteran players leading the way. Maggie Lam, an experienced senior with a wealth of talent, is a hugely versatile player who can handle the ball and play with her back to the basket equally well. With a good height for her position at 5'8", Maggie is capable of dominating opposing players, even those much taller. Alice Wu, one of our juniors, is the team's top slasher and has a knack for crafty and strong finishes. She is the definition of a two-way player and can keep up with the quickest of players on defense. With these two star players, we look forward to a great season! https://create.play1.io/project-gallery-shareing/?pid=2369

We want to be passionate on the court and play selfless, team-oriented basketball. We place an emphasis on communication, work ethic, and team chemistry as well. We also talk about having a growth mindset--no matter the situation on the court or in life, we always try to find a way to get better each and every day. Additionally, situations that may seem challenging can often turn into great learning experiences for our players and provide valuable lessons beyond basketball. #LynbrookHighSchoolBasketball #YoungWomenSettingLeading #TeamGoals https://create.play1.io/project-gallery-shareing/?pid=2370

Takaki wants to thank everyone for their support of the team, and states that they are looking forward to putting up a great performance for all. https://create.play1.io/project-gallery-shareing/?pid=2371
