Valley Christian Academy Girls Basketball team, under the leadership of Coach Kimberly Contreras, is ready to make a run at the section title game. With a goal of heading back to the state championship, Coach Contreras has highlighted teamwork and defense as key to success.
The team is returning with top players from last season, Senior Mariah Contreras, leading in points, Sophomore Janet Donkor with her ball handling skills running the offense, Senior Ellie Gunter with her defensive presence and rebounds, and Junior Gabby Jackson Brown with her post play. Additionally, the team is bringing in the new speed of Shyanne Richter and Lovely Williams.
When selecting team captains, Coach Contreras looks for natural leaders who have the best interests for the team, demonstrating good character both in a win and a lose, and showing respect for the officials. This season, Captain roles have been filled by Seniors Mariah Contreras, Ellie Gunter, and Kylie Bazil.
To ensure team chemistry and camaraderie, Coach Contreras has implemented team building activities and team bonding outings. Players are motivated to push themselves to their full potential through positive encouragement and detailed training.
Preparations for this season have been a challenge as the team had to adjust to the loss of two key players, both of which moved up to collegiate level play. Luckily, Sophomore players have stepped up to the challenge.
The team’s schedule is stacked with competitive opponents, a challenging preseason with strong teams. During gameplay, Coach Contreras focuses on defense making sure her team scores within ten seconds and holds for a full 30 seconds. She’s also sure to note a 3 to 1 ratio in her team’s favor.
There have been no new strategies implemented this season, but the team’s strength of good communication and chemistry continues. Mental toughness has been a key factor in getting this far, and Coach Contreras plans on implementing team drills this season to hone in on better hand placement, footwork, reading the floor, and awareness.
To make sure her players balance academics and sports, Coach Contreras encourages weekly grade checks and provides team tutoring when needed.
Coach Contreras’ final message to the team’s fans and supporters is one of gratitude for the ability to play the game and a reminder that love of the game can be seen through their play.
The Valley Christian Academy Girls Basketball team is sure to be a force to be reckoned with this season, and with Coach Kimberly Contreras at its lead, the team is ready to take on any challenge that comes their way.

This season, Valley Christian Academy Girls Basketball team has faced a number of challenges as they come together and prepare to compete. One of the most difficult this year has been saying goodbye to two of their seniors who have gone off to play college-level basketball. One of these seniors was a top area player, and the other was a naturally talented post player. With their departure, the team has had to grapple with finding ways to fill the role that these departing seniors left behind. Thissearch has not been easy and has required the team to see if one of their sophomores can rise to the challenge and take on the role to lead the team. Despite these hurdles, the Valley Christian Academy Girls Basketball team is determined to have a successful season. They continue to persevere, putting in the effort to form a cohesive team that can be successful on and off the court. https://create.play1.io/project-gallery-shareing/?pid=2323

Valley Christian Academy Girls Basketball team faces an exciting season, as coach Kimberly Contreras has identified both strengths and weaknesses among the team to build on. The teams’ cohesive chemistry, stemming from the many years that several of them have spent together since early elementary school, is a force to be reckoned with. Contreras plans on taking this bond to the next level as the team navigates a successful season. However, repetition needs to be practiced to perfect their free throw effectiveness, as seen as a current weakness. With effective drills and practice, repetition can easily improve the team’s weak points, while allowing their strength to flow organically. With this structure in place, nothing can stop Valley Christian Academy’s Girls basketball team from conquering the court. https://create.play1.io/project-gallery-shareing/?pid=2328

Coach Kimberly Contreras firmly believes that defense is the key to success on the court. Her philosophy on the court is very clear: establish a strong defense first and ensure that the team scores within ten seconds. The defense must work hard for the entire 30 seconds in order to ensure that the team has advantages of the 3-to-1 ratio. Coach Contreras’s expectations are that the defense sets the tone for the entire team. By having the team focus on defending first, score second mentality means that the team is working to set themselves up for success. This mantra has been preached during each practice and has translated to the games the Valley Christian Academy Girls Basketball teams have participated in. Furthermore, Coach Contreras has worked hard to instill a strong sense of grit, determination and hard work – all which are embodied in her coaching style and philosophy. https://create.play1.io/project-gallery-shareing/?pid=2329

We will continue to work on growing with our system we have been building for the last three years.
This year the Valley Christian Academy Girls Basketball team is focusing on growth rather than introducing new strategies or plays. After three years of committing to a system and building from that, the team looks forward to what this season holds. With a core group of returning players as well as some new members, the coaches expect to see the team grow in skill and strength as they move through this season. The dedication to refining and perfecting the key aspects of their system will be beneficial in the long run, providing the team with an outstanding foundation. The coaches and players of Valley Christian Academy are confident that the efforts this season will have a lasting impact. https://create.play1.io/project-gallery-shareing/?pid=2330

At Valley Christian Academy Girls Basketball, balancing academics and sports is a priority for our team. We ensure our players stay on track through weekly grade checks, and when our younger players may need a little extra help, our older players provide in-team tutoring. We strive to develop the whole student-athlete, not just their sports performance. Our team culture emphasizes development outside of the court: academic success, sportsmanship, and personal growth. By cultivating a growth mindset, we can help our athletes reach their fullest potential both on and off the court. https://create.play1.io/project-gallery-shareing/?pid=2332
