The anticipation for a thrilling season at El Diamante High School basketball is palpable. I spoke with Coach Jessica Cervantes, whose passion and commitment toward the team's success are undeniable. With a fervent desire to excel, Coach Cervantes outlined the team's ambitions, strengths, challenges, and the strategies employed to mold a cohesive and competitive unit.
"Trust the process and get 1% better every day," Coach Cervantes emphasized, encapsulating the overarching goals for the team. The pursuit of a league title and playoff triumphs fuels their drive. Key to this aspiration are the returning players, each a distinct asset to the team's dynamics.
Reyna Soto, Nevaeh Creason, Angelina Morales, Olivia Torres, and Mia Olson stand out for their unwavering commitment and unique skill sets. What sets some of these players apart is their resilience, having missed their freshman year due to pandemic restrictions. Yet, their dedication on and off the court shines through.
Coach Cervantes also highlighted the anticipated impact of new players, emphasizing their potential to seamlessly integrate into the team's fabric. Faith Villarreal, Olivia Montemayor, Kaycee Perryman, and Aaralyn Jenkins are poised to leave an immediate impression, filling roles and contributing with their distinct abilities.
The selection of team captains is a thoughtful process, focusing on character, work ethic, and commitment. These captains serve not just as leaders on the court but as exemplars of dedication, both academically and within the community.
Creating camaraderie and chemistry among the players is a top priority. Coach Cervantes detailed various team-building traditions and outings designed to foster unity, in addition to implementing new bonding experiences tailored to the players' preferences.
Motivation isn't solely basketball-centric. The coaching staff's investment in their players' holistic development, supporting their endeavors beyond the court, is a catalyst for the team's drive. Moreover, incentivizing through incentives like film days and fun activities fuels the players' commitment.
However, challenges persist, notably injuries and the unpredictability of player consistency. The team navigates these obstacles, aiming to regain their rhythm.

This season, the El Diamante High School Girls Basketball team is looking to implement team chemistry and camaraderie with their usual team dinners at the start, middle, and end of their season, plus a Christmas party with a Secret Santa gift exchange. They've added a Teamsgiving to that already, as well as "fun days" for the team to enjoy random activities like crazy sock day. To further grow their bond, they plan on attending games at local college hoops games, such as College of the Sequoias and Fresno State University. With all these events, their team bond and camaraderie can only become stronger. https://create.play1.io/project-gallery-shareing/?pid=2377

We had the luxury of two coaches that could balance each other out depending on who we were playing and how we wanted to attack them. We've continued to play the same fast-paced style of basketball and the girls have really embraced it.
The El Diamante High School Girls Basketball team has further refined its style of play this season and continues to play with a fast-paced intensity that has earned them many victories. With the addition of a new assistant coach last year, the team was able to introduce new strategies and fully implement them this year. The combination of the two coaching styles have given our program balance and put it in the best position to succeed. The girls have responded positively to this new style and it has helped them achieve the incredible success they have had this season. Through continued hard work and dedication, the girls are poised to make great strides this season. #ElDiamanteHSGBSquads #FastPaceforSuccess https://create.play1.io/project-gallery-shareing/?pid=2381

At El Diamante High School Girls Basketball, we understand the importance of a strong mental game. Our team puts a huge focus on mental preparation, and taking a “one game at a time” approach, to ensure we practice mindfulness. Going into each game with clarity and a focused mindset allows us to perform to our full potential. It is essential to prepare our minds ahead of time, rather than “blindly” going into each game. With the right mental preparation, we are able to recognize and utilize our full capabilities, and come out as winners. We encourage our players to apply the same degree of focus and diligence across the board, so we come out on top. Mental resilience isn’t just about mental preparation; it is about understanding yourself and your team and recognizing your strengths and weaknesses. Only then can we strive to become a better a team together. https://create.play1.io/project-gallery-shareing/?pid=2382

At El Diamante High School's Girls Basketball team, Coach Jessica Cervantes strives to support her players in the balancing of both academics and sports. Stressing that players are students first and athletes second, she performs regular grade checks and works with their teachers to make sure the girls are achieving in the classroom. Cervantes knows how important it is to perform in the classroom, and she sets a clear expectation for the team: those with a D in a class will not be able to practice or play until the grades are at a C or higher. At El Diamante High School's Girls Basketball team, Coach Jessica Cervantes strives to support her players in the balancing of both academics and sports. Stressing that players are students first and athletes second, she performs regular grade checks and works with their teachers to make sure the girls are achieving in the classroom. With tutor and study hall available, any needed extra attention can be found. Cervantes knows how important it is to perform in the classroom, and she sets a clear expectation for the team: those with a D in a class will not be able to practice or play until the grades are at a C or higher. Through determination and discipline, Coach Cervantes’s girls are able to excel both on and off the court. https://create.play1.io/project-gallery-shareing/?pid=2386

The season's schedule is a balanced mix of tough opponents and competitive matches. Coach Cervantes strategically selected games and tournaments to challenge the team and elevate their performance.
While the coaching style remains consistent, the emphasis on mental preparedness stands out. The team's mental fortitude is deemed pivotal for success.
Strengths like aggression and skillsets are acknowledged, yet improvements in trust and mental preparedness are in the spotlight. The focus remains on gradual enhancement, aiming for incremental growth each day.
Communication on the court is paramount. The team's success is deeply entwined with effective communication among players.
Balancing academics and sports is pivotal. Coach Cervantes ensures that academics take precedence, monitoring grades regularly and enforcing a strict academic standard for participation.
As the season unfolds, the team pledges a commitment to deliver thrilling games filled with energy and enthusiasm. They invite fans and supporters to witness their dedication firsthand.
El Diamante High School's basketball team, under Coach Cervantes' guidance, embodies the spirit of unity, growth, and relentless pursuit of excellence. As they step onto the court, they carry the hopes and aspirations of a cohesive unit, ready to conquer challenges and create memorable moments. https://create.play1.io/project-gallery-shareing/?pid=2388
